
Ms. Carter began her career in the printing and publishing industry and then embarked on her first entrepreneurial adventure by purchasing a small packaging company. She later joined the family business, a contract machine shop handling customer service, marketing, human resources, and process improvement.
Ms. Carter became involved in workforce development; writing grants and implementing training programs. She saw a need for small businesses in this area and left to start her own company, as a manufacturing consultant.
Ms. Carter worked with the RI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the Center for Women & Enterprise in Providence offering counseling and training to entrepreneurs. She later became a RI SBDC Regional Director for Newport County. Innovative services included an initiative called PATH (Professional Available to Help), a round-table/mentoring partnership. She also expanded services to include interns from Johnson & Wales, Salve Regina and Roger Williams Universities.
This led to the opening of an RI SBDC satellite office at Salve Regina University to increase the highly strategic alliance with faculty and students building upon the need for more student engagement in the workplace. Ms. Carter eventually joined Salve Regina to help create the Center for Business Outreach – expanding the program to include all students, alumni and business leaders throughout the country.
Ms. Carter is known as an expert networker: connecting resources, creating partnerships and developing best practices for growth and sustainability.


Professionals are called in as appropriate to test products, train participants, and offer additional services. Interns from local universities are also added to the mix for a robust, comprehensive plan.
